Parking is on 14th street north of Ocean Park.

Los Angeles, CA – (July 16, 2007) The Los Angeles Biodiesel Community Conference is open to the general public and will offer action-based discussions on Biodiesel Basics, Legislation, Local Distribution, School Bus and Other Fleet Usage, Biodiesel Education, and more.

The event originally began as a Tree Media Roundtable and has grown into this community event (visit http://www.11thhouraction.com for more information). It is being sponsored by Southern California Disposal and Recycling, and will be hosted by The Los Angeles Biodiesel Working Group, the LA Biodiesel Co-op, Socalbug (the Southern California Biodiesel Users Group), and Josh Tickell, author of “From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank” and “Biodiesel America.”

The purpose of the conference is to empower and educate the public, local businesses and community leaders in their efforts to make biodiesel a viable fuel option for Southern California. Collectively we will establish a groundbreaking action plan that will provide the steps to expand biodiesel distribution in Southern California and establish new legislation that promotes sustainable fuel options.

We, as a community, can make biodiesel an affordable and available fuel option. It is time for us to unite and take action today! For more information, visit www.socalbug.org

Please contact Rob Reed, Kelly Olson or Gretchen Gray to schedule an interview with the following individuals to discuss the Biodiesel Community Conference agenda and action plan before or at the event: Josh Tickell – Author/Filmmaker; Kent Bullard - Chairman of Socalbug, a 501c3 non-profit organization and Kris Moller – Owner/Operator of Conserv Fuel.

Santa Monica Critical Mass bike riders getting unwanted attention from SMPD

On our last ride the Santa Monica Police Department more or less
chased us to the border. I know that at least one citation was given
and it seems likely many more. This was obviously a planned effort of
the SMPD - there were at least 5 motorcycle cops in the area before
the ride.

We need to respond to this disruption as a community. If we fail to
react as a community we could easily lose the ability to have this
ride each month. There are a variety of approaches we might take. We
can generate negative feedback by contacting city officials and
writing letters to the editor. We can also organize the ride so that
it is more difficult for the police to disrupt it.

If you were cited, or if you know who was cited, please contact me at
alexcthompson@gmail.com. If you are interested in responding to
SMPD's disruption please contact me.

The SMDP printed an editorial I wrote on 7/21 and a snarky reply on 7/25 - on page 4 of each of the following:

http://www.smdp.com/site/archives/072107.pdf
http://www.smdp.com/site/archives/072507.pdf

What do you think? I'm going to start encouraging people to write editorials of their own and contact city officials. Any suggestions?
Bike!
Alex Thompson

More thoughts

Good piece in the Daily Press and the reply falls under the category of there is no such thing as bad press. You are on the right track with this.

Perhaps someone could send in a letter with the global warming, parking, and congestion solution - healthy living angle one more time with some sort of overture to the Police about how we can get along.

Another good letter would be how car drivers are the real problem and put bicyclist in hospitals because they break the law all the time by violating bicycle rights. How does slowing traffic compare to putting people in Hospital! Not to mention all the poison and global warming gas that comes out of them.

Sacramento School Bus turning Bio Diesel - feed stock needed

A new member in Sacramento is starting a biodiesel production operation for the bus fleet for the school district. He wants to find a reliable feedstock source that would supply their 45,000-gallon annual requirement. Do you know anything that would be helpful?

He is: Lloyd Welling, 916-539-5456

and his email that is somewhat problematic: Lwelling@natomas.k12.ca.us

How cool would it be to get that fleet on a renewable fuel with significantly improved exhaust emission! Lets get this guy hooked up…
