Progress report and a need for agreement about the Doo Dah Parade

The Green Prix – Ladies and Gentlemen Please STOP your Engines

– is ready to roll. But EVs are missing in action….  What to do?

The Parade is building good alternative transportation energy. We

have lined up an electric motor scooter and a good looking bio diesel

vehicle, a 1983 Mercedes 2-door sport coupe with 374,000 miles, no

rebuild.  It has a sunroof for someone to wave from or carry a sign.

The group will include lots of people riding bikes and walking with

two bullhorns. In addition the LA Post carbon people will be there

with their theme of Addicted to Oil, which should include lots of

human powered ways of moving about.

The problem is that we do not have the Electric Car thing sorted out.

On Saturday we came up with a strategy that said that the best

vehicles for the parade would be a GEM, a sparrow or a Tango.

There were at least two people we respect and appreciate who had a

concern that the Wacky nature of the parade might marginalize the

RAV4’s if we put them in there.  There is at least one person who is

willing to show and drive their RAV in the parade.

The thing is that the Tango is a no go, the Gems that want to come

are too far out of their range and the Sparrow that is in range has

other plans for the weekend.

What this means is that the 50,000 people at the parade and the

comprehensive news coverage will show all forms of alternative

transport except an electric car.

The question we need to answer is if it is better to get substantial

exposure and risk looking a little wacky or to be missing in action?

We can use signs to state the case of a RAV 4 EV being a substantial

and serious means of transportation and that would off set the stated

concern.  Are there other ideas about how to proceed and or get past

our concerns?

Please email your response or give me a call ASAP so we can sort

this out.  Here are some suggested responses that would help:

Some new idea or new vehicle availability

Your vote to move forward with a RAV 4

Some way to meet the concern and still show at the event

Your reconsidering your reservation

Your reinforcing the concern would be respected and we can skip this opportunity.

The cut off time for a response would be Thursday evening.

What ever your response – you can still show up and support

sustainable transportation and have a real fun time.

For those that want to join us for the parade:

We will be gathering starting at

around 10 or so on Sunday. The formation area is in Memorial

Park in Old Pasadena (look for 85 E. Holly Street on a map). The

park is located on Raymond Avenue, between Walnut and Holly

Streets (2 blocks north of Colorado Blvd.). The Metro Gold Line

stops in this very park (Memorial Park Station). We will be lining

up in the street on a first-come, first-serve basis. You should be

present no later than 10:30 am on the morning of the parade!!

Report on Jumpstart Ford demonstration Nov 12th

A good time was had by all at the Ford demonstration.  We put out some

great signs and caused a good stir.  KTLA showed with a camera crew and

there were at least two other crews present.

The event built some good bridges with the RAN organization (Rainforest

Action Network) and brought a number of new people to our mailing list.

That includes the connection mentioned in the next item.

It was a also a good chance to visit with friends and like minded people.
