for more information.
We are moving toward building a vision for implementing
Sustainable Transportation on the Westside. It is a vision that can
incorporate all of our ideas on how to take practical steps toward
that future. It is a vision that will need lots of support. It is a
vision that can become a model for other areas to work with and
implement.
It is a vision that takes form through our working together at the
next meeting. Please join us and bring as many friends as you
know are interested.

Meeting reminder
City Council meeting on March 14th,
Tuesday at 6:45 Pm
Santa Monica City Hall 1685 Main Street
This meeting will be a chance to give support for a Bicycle safe
city and for the Green Depot. The Green Depot is a primary focus
right now as discussed below. This is a chance to put forward
what ever concerns and possibilities you might have about getting
your idea of sustainable transportation to become part of the work
in Santa Monica. The city council members definitely respond to
people supporting such ideas, particularly when such people
present themselves and their ideas in well
thought out presentations.
Your attendance will help get things going and provide support for
a sustainable future.

- SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT PRIMER
The idea of putting together a Sustainable Transport Primer is
coming together. This primer would be a tool to convey the vision
and the possibilities of moving toward a future with a sustainable
transport system. This tool would be used to get the City of Santa
Monica moving forward on this track as well as being a tool that
others can use.
The Primer would have three main sections as Follows:
Sustainable Energy Sources – what they are and how to create
them.
Sustainable Vehicles – Bicycles, neighbor hood transport vehicles
and sustainable fuel cars.
Building minimal transport communities that require fewer cars
and minimal daily travel. This is the personal transport part of re-
localization.
We need people with expertise in each of these areas to help create
this primer. We have some of the best on board now and need
more help to get this done and to get it right.
A working idea for each section is to start with a vision of what the
future would look like when things are fully sustainable. This
would be followed by a list of prioritized goals to start things
moving toward the vision. These goals would then be focused on
specific activities to start doing now to get results.
The bicycle advocates are getting their act together on this and are
closing in on putting their part together. You care about some part
of this and can help create the representation that your piece of this
puzzle deserves.
Who will create the focus for the sections of the primer that cover
your interests? Come to the meeting and make sure it happens.
The Primer will be used in Santa Monica first but it is something
that can be used to educate any area and to get any area moving
forward. You do not have to be in Santa Monica to help make this
work

Bio Diesel in the San Gabriel Valley
We have just received contact with someone in the San Gabriel
Valley who wants to get together with people who are interested in
Bio Diesel. He is interested in getting a group together and maybe
forming a club. One of the main interests is in producing bio
diesel in that area for local use.
Kent Bullard of the LA Bio Diesel Coop has already given him
some great resources to find people in the area. If you are
anywhere near there please get in touch with him.
Here are the internet resources the Kent suggested – thanks Kent:
LA Biodiesel Coop, www.biodiesel-coop.org .
Southern California Biodiesel Users Group http://www.socalbug.org ,
local fuel resources. http://www.sustainableoptions.com/socalbug-info.html
In additions, he would like to hear from people who make fuel for
themselves so he can get a handle on what would be best to do.
Contact Gene - email - JARGR@aol.com
Anyone who wants to get a club started in their area would be
encouraged to do so. We can help in several ways starting with
putting your announcements etc in this newsletter.

Earth Day coming up April 15th
It will be possible to table for Sustainable transport at this years
event on the third street promenade. The Westside Greens has
$160 of the $175 fee already lined up and there is $100 more
committed to get the electric motor scooters in there. That means
we could pull together another $95 and have two booths to work
with. Who wants to come down and help get the word out and to
get more people organized to do this work?
We will talk about this more at the meeting. Please let us know if
you can volunteer to help at the table but cannot make the meeting
this Saturday. That way so we know what we have going for the
event.
Here is an outtake from an email from the organizers in Santa
Monica.
"Earth Day on the Promenade" in Santa Monica. This year it will
be on the Saturday before Easter, one of the great shopping days of
the year, April 15, 10 am to 7 pm, with a projected total of 15,000
people. This event has a very limited number of booth spaces and
we are giving you first opportunity for a space.
